"Southern Vermont is very rural. There is not too much to do, especially for teenagers. We did take our teenage son kayaking one day; visited Bromley Mountain where they have an Alpine Slide and Devalkarts (which my son thoroughly enjoyed). The furthest North we ventured was to Quechee Village. There are many small towns you can see in and around this area. If you enjoy driving, country stores, and mountains, this is the place to go. It's a beautiful area, the scenery is great, but a week may be a few days too many. "
"If you do go, be sure to cross the street and go the the Vermont Chamber of Commerce building for information on what to do. They had some great suggestions and maps."
"We ate out twice during our stay. Casey's Caboose on the Killington access road is highly recommended. Upon entering, I felt as if I stepped into a college- town bar. Don't be fooled, the food is excellent. Since this is a tourist area, the prices tend to be on the high side. No surprises there. The second dinner out as at Marks Restaurant located at the top of Killington Peak. For $30 per person plus tax, you get a gondola ride to the top of Killington Peak and a dinner buffet. To get this "discounted price" you must tell the person that you have purchased a multi-day lift ticket. The dinner buffet is offered Wednesday and Saturday evenings. Only alcohol is extra. The gondola was not heated. The food selection was limited, but quite good. Warning, make sure to ask how much the bottle of wine is before ordering. Only after receiving the bill for the alcohol did we realize the bottle of wine we had was $40!"
"We did take a one hour snowmobile tour. The outfitter was Killington Snowmobile Tours at Sunrise (Tel No. 1-802-422-3339). The cost for a single occupant on a snowmobile is $55 plus tax, $75 plus tax for a double. For $130 plus tax single, $195 plus tax double, they offer a snowmobile ride to Killington Peak for the above mentioned dinner buffet. The night we were at the buffet, the temperature at the peak was 25 below zero with 40 mph gusts. Snowmobile ride?, no thanks."
"We went to Ben & Jerry's (again!), the Art for Art's Sake/A Taste of Stowe festival in Stowe (yum yum!), spent two days at the Champlain Valley Fair & Exposition (an annual must), wandered around the craft shops of Stowe, had a great lunch at Peppers BBQ in South Burlington, a wonderful dinner at Pickwick's Pub & Restaurant in Stowe, and happily wandered into the 24th Annual Craft Fair in Mad River Glen. Bored!? Not on your life!!"
"Northern Vermont is full of stuff to do. We have spent the last 7 out of 8 of our timeshare vacations there over the past four summers and have never had a bored moment."
"The Sugarbush Valley area is beautiful and there are many restaurants in the valley that are unique. No fast foods here, and the rural community is very relaxing. Warren, Vermont is a very nice change for us. We look forward to our next visit."
"If you want to see a movie, go to Stowe's only cinema. Get this, in the rear of the theater, they serve drinks - cocktails, beer - while you watch the movie. We saw Titanic and it was great. An adult ticket was $6. There are 3 theaters. We only ate out once and it was at Gracies. Expect to spend about $15 for a meal. There was a special table in front of the fireplace and this is only available through advance reservation."
"The town of Stowe also has a wonderful paved path that is used for bicycling, skating, and walking in the spring-autumn months as well as cross-country skiing during the winter. Dining out is an adventure in Stowe because there is so much to choose from, whether or not you have kids. Our favorites were Whiskers and The Pickwick Pub, both on the Mountain Road. There's even a McDonalds if the kids MUST have fast food. We have also enjoyed Miguel's (at Stoweflake) for some of the best Mexican food east of the Mississippi."
"Things to do in Burlington VT. You will have a lot to do at Smugglers', but the trip to Burlington is a good choice. A few suggestions we would have are: 1) Shelburne Farms and or Shelburne Museum, and 2) something on the Burl/Lake Champlain waterfront (boat cruise, rental boats, bike path, walking around Church St.)
"Good restaurants include: Sweetwaters, the Shanty, Bourbon St, Trattoria Delia (all in downtown Burlington), and Sirloin Saloon in Shelburne.
"You should also try to fit in a trip through
the "Notch", to Stowe. There's a great bike path that's gorgeous in the
summer .... The Ben & Jerry's Factory tour is also a nearby, and popular."
