Negative
1.Disappointing location/view since we had a really good trade, HRA.
Dogwood. Furthest location. This was not a comparable trade.
2.The beds were quite uncomfortable and I am not picky. 3 inches of
foam it appeared and 2 small pillows. Had to buy some more after we
asked for more and got 2 more small pillows. My back hurt and it
never has before.
3. Quite small (which is disclosed) and no real ammenities or
activities - they are at Grande Ocean or Barony.
4. Used hottubs very nice but broken several days.
Positive
1.Units appear refurbished. Quite clean and modern.
2. Service - lost key and replaced quickly, check in earlier than the
4pm at 1pm and our unit was ready.
3. Nice location at beach.
4. Hilton Head is a nice place.
It has at least 4 stories. Unit 887 is on the third floor. It is
three bedroom with a king bed, two twins and two twins. There are two washers
and two dryers next to the elevator. The unit is very spacious but aging.
The bathroom fixtures are like the ones found in old cheap apartment. The
living room is nice and well furnished. We had 12 people there including
four kids opening loads of Christmas gifts, everyone fits in comfortably.
I would rate the location and activities a 9.5, but the interior of the
unit a 5.
7/13/00 - Date of Visit: 5/27/00 ((Marriott's Racquet Club)
Just down the street from HarbourTown in the Sea Pines Plantation
is Marriott's Racquet Club property. Actually, Racquet Club is one of the
Saturday Villas, a few timeshare properties located within a resort that
is mostly full ownership condos. When Marriott entered the timeshare market
in Hilton Head it bought American Resorts, the orginal developer of Racquet
Club, and the contract called for Marriott to continue to manage the timeshare
units in Racquet Club and a few other properties. These are listed under
Sea Pines Plantation in the II resort directory. At the property itself
there is a pool and several tennis courts (duh!) It is a short walk up
to HarbourTown and the Sea Pines Tennis Club and Heritage Gold Links are
a shorter walk. People staying at the timeshare units of Racquet Club can
participate in all Marriott activities, which are held at other properties.
The units themselves give the appearance of townhouses, but unlike most other townhouse units, there is no up and down. These are single level units with the larger 3 bedroom units being on the first floor and the 2 bedroom units on the second floor. There is one master bedroom in each, which is the one with the king-sized bed. The second bedroom has two twins, and if you get a 3 bed, two more twins. Two standard sized bathrooms are in both the 2 and 3 bedroom units. The furnishings are average Marriott quality, and the sofa in the living room folds out into a queen-sized bed. The kitchens are nice sized and well equipped.
The Sea Pines' bike paths run across the street from Racquet Club,
and beach access is at the Sea Pines Beach Club just about a mile away.
All the great resturants and entertainment of HarbourTown are a short stroll
up the path. Overall the 3 bd. unit would be a great exchange, and a 2
bd unit a nice exchange, and both above average.
7/11/00 - Date of Visit: 5/27/00 (Marriott's Plantation Club)
Marriott's Plantation Club is one of the Saturday Villas managed
by Marriott under the terms of an agreement entered into with the resort's
developer, American Resorts, when Marriott bought that company. Plantation
Club is a large development of condos, with about four 3 bedroom and four
2 bedroom units being sold for timeshare. The resort's location is at the
intersection of Lighthouse Road and Sea Pines Drive, just behind the clubhouse
for the Ocean and Sea Marsh golf courses. The timeshare units are generally
located in the eastern part of the development, making them a short walk
across the street to get to the Sea Pines Beach Club and the ocean. Being
managed by Marriott allows all persons staying the the Plantation Club
timeshares to attend any Marriott activities.
The two bedroom units are located in the hotel style buildings that overlooks the golf course. There is a nice sized kitchen and living room/dining room, and a small patio/balcony at one end. The sofa bed in the living room would allow up to 6 people to use the units. Off to the side are the bedrooms, both of average size, and a king and two twins for a set-up. The bathrooms are rather small and feature standard sized tubs/showers. Overall this is an adequate unit for a family wishing to get into Sea Pines for a vacation.
The three bedroom units are an entirely different story. These are two level townhouses that feature three bedrooms and three bathrooms up, and the kitchen, living room, dining room, and another half bath down. The "master bedroom" has a king sized bed, the second bedroom had two double beds, and the third bedroom had two twin beds. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, all of average size. Downstairs the kitchen was functional, but not large, and had standard Marriott issue. The living room was good-sized and had a sleeper sofa in case even more guests were staying. The condition of the unit was par for the course for Marriotts. The three bedroom unit should always be considered as an exchange if you're looking for a big unit in Sea Pines and want plenty of room.
Plantation Club has its own swimming pool and is on the trolly route
if you're there in the summer and wish to go up the HarbourTown or the
Sea Pines Shopping Plaza, or back down to the Sea Pines Beach Club. As
per all resorts in Sea Pines, the bike trail runs through it for easy access
to all other areas in Sea Pines. Overall Plantation Club is a great exchange
if you get a 3 bd unit, and OK if you get a 2 bd. unit or have a small
group traveling. TUG rating is a blended 6.5, higher for the 3 bd and lower
for the 2 bd.
7/11/00 - Date of Visit: 5/27/00 (Marriott's Night Heron)
Marriott's Night Heron units are among the best kept secrets for
Hilton Head timeshare units. The resort was built as condos for full ownership
but some of the units, about 5 or 6 of them, were sold for fractional ownership.
The original developer, American Resorts, was bought out by Marriott in
1984 and Marriott is contractually bound to manage these units, along with
several other properties similarily situated, and collectively known as
the Saturday Villas, or Sea Pines Plantation (SPI) in the II resort directory.
The units themselves are individual free-standing mini vacation homes. You enter into a L-shaped kitchen that is functional but dated. From there the master bedroom is to one side where a queen bed takes up most of the room. The master bathroom is standard sized. The second bedroom is just a bit smaller and also has a standard sized bathroom. The living room finishes off the first floor and it has a nice vaulted ceiling that is open to the loft. There is a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. A patio that overlooks a lagoon or similar vista is off the living room. Up a spiral staircase is a loft where a queen sized sleeper sofa and table make up what could be used as a third bedroom. The spiral stair is, however, not closely attached to the wall leaving a good-sized gap that would enable a toddler to take the direct route to the first floor.
Being in the Marriott system means anyone staying at Night Heron can participate in any of the Marriott activities on the island. Beach access is either at the Sea Pines Beach Club or you can just take the short walk across the street to the public easement allowing access to the beach. The ubiquitous Sea Pines' bike trails runs through the front of the property.
While I have not stayed in the Night Heron units, and therefore will
not rate them, I would not hesitate to take one for exchange should it
be available. The feeling of having your own vacation home, not just an
apartment, in Hilton Head makes this a charming opportunity for a Hilton
Head vacation for a family plus a guest or two.
04/01/99 - Date of Visit: 3/20/99 - Sea Pines Plantations are a group
of villas, managed by Marriott in the Sea Pines Plantation at Hilton Head.
Ours was a three bedroom with three and one half baths. The unit itself
was spacious and well furnished. It could have been cleaner. The kitchen
was well equipped. However, our stove needed to be replaced. The large
burner was not working when we got there-we called for the repair and they
did fix it right away. This same burner broke again in the middle of a
big dinner I was preparing for friends- ruined my steamed vegetables! Also
the handle fell off the oven door whenever we opened it. It took us two
days and six phone calls to get coffee filters and four days to get our
patio furniture cleaned. Our private outside covered garbage area was filled
with garbage when we arrived and was not taken for three days- it smelled.
They knew our unit number and hated to hear from us, but it was so difficult
for us to get any action.
There were two pools but none were heated so we did not use them.
There were no amenities. We didn't even get an information sheet about
where to go to a beach or golf or anything. There was no barbeque either.
There was a gym nearby that we could use for three dollars a day but it
was small and had little equipment-we had to call the front desk to ask
for this information. It was in a good location and the grounds were well
kept . The azaleas were beautiful everywhere. Hilton Head is beautiful
but I would never exchange to this resort again.
