9/9/03 - Date of Visit: A quick update on the Myrtle Beach Resort...
We were very pleased to find that the resort and common area
maintenance is still outstanding. The pools were cleaned daily and
the walkways and activity areas were spotless. Interiors of the
units are still variable due to individual ownership. We are already
planning next year's trip.
1/29/03 - Date of Visit: 8/01
This was our sixth visit to Myrtle Beach Resort, and we would be happy
to go there again. The resort is laid out in three types of buildings:
The Tower (oceanfront high-rise), A & B Buildings (long, five-story
buildings with oceanfront, oceanview and parking-lot view condos), and
the Five Seasons (garden style condos wrapped around courtyards, nice but
hundreds of yards from the beach). Security was excellent and outside
maintenance is top-shelf. Four outdoor pools and two indoor pools,
three hot tubs, a small playground and a basketball court provide plenty
of activities. The resort includes plenty of vending machines and
ample laundry facilities, as well as a small convenience store and game
room. Individual unit maintenance is variable, and we have seen both
extremes, but the front office was willing to move us upon request when
space was available.
I agree with the earlier post about the strange configuration of bedroom
windows facing the interior hallways. It must be some sort of emergency
exit plan, but the wire-reinforced glass seems to defeat that idea.
Thankfully, most of the units we have rented had good shades or curtains
to block most of the hall lights. Kids running back and forth during
the late hours was somewhat annoying. I recommend "B" building for
its convenient access to the large indoor pool.
The resort is located between two campgrounds at the southern end of
Myrtle Beach. It is within a few miles of dozens of restaurants,
grocery stores and miniature golf courses, yet it maintains its relatively
quiet resort feel. One minor complaint: The "lifeguards" are
actually umbrella rental agents who grab all of the best locations at dawn,
then seem to disappear for the rest of day. We preferred to save
the money by bringing our own, but that required walking an extra fifty
yards past empty rental chairs to an open spot.
I would give MBR a 6.5, which would be higher if the individual unit
maintenance was more consistent. It's a safe, comfortable family
resort at the beach.
5/29/98-Date of Visit: 5/9/98 - Large, nicely landscaped resort
at the south city limits of Myrtle Beach. Unit I stayed in was a little
tired, but comfy. Nicely supplied kitchen, several pools, tennis, good
security. Strangely, in the 5-story building I was in the bedrooms both
had windows that overlooked the hallway. Since the hallway was of course,
always lit, it always felt like 10 AM in the bedrooms. I often travel without
a rental car, but this didn't work well in Myrtle Beach. You can get downtown
on the bus, but many attractions are not near the bus route.
