Jamestown

"A trip to Providence is worthwhile. The river has been rerouted and has a water fire tour. Glide down the river in a gondola or walk the river walk for two miles and see the fires that border the river. Good sandy beaches are to the south of 1A. Large strands of clean sand with very adequate restroom facilities. Visit the Port of Galilee as well. This is about a 35 minute drive or a bus ride of over an hour is available."

"The location is fantastic. From here we went to Boston twice, Newport, Cape Cod, Mystic Seaport, Plymouth Plantation and had a great time at each place. The staff was generally very helpful and when they failed to pick us up for a boat ride in Newport they gave us a complimentary ride and dinner."

Newport

"Be sure and eat at Mudville. In season TWO lobsters for $9.99."

"You can walk to many of the attractions. The antique armory is right next door, and there is a great restaurant, called Themes, one block over."

"When in Newport: you really go for the mansions , boat cruises and closeness to Cape Cod - we went as far as Hyannis on a day outing and stopped in Sandwich at their glass museum."

"One night we went to the local grocery store and bought whole lobsters at $4.99 a pound. The store steamed them for us, and we brought them back to our unit and made some corn on the cob and baked potatoes to eat with them -- it was all absolutely delish!"

"The resort is near many, many fine restaurants and shopping opportunities, including the many factory outlets in the Fall River area. The must-see mansions of the rich and famous are nearby and available for tour as well as the Kennedy family landmarks. The Tennis Hall of Fame is also only a short walk from the resort."

"We were there in the dead of winter, so the town was closed up pretty tight. There were still enough restaurants and shops open though, and Newport has recently started Winterfest to drum up winter business."

There are *many* attractions in Newport, so we hardly left the city the entire week. We took advantage of almost all that Newport had to offer at that time of year. We especially enjoyed walking along the Cliff Walk, touring the mansions, and taking a sunset sail around the harbor. There are numerous historic sites, and there are some lovely shops.

"Since we went there during the shoulder season, not as many attractions were open as during the summer. But it wasn't crowded like it is during the high season. The weather was quite nice. We only had one really  cold, blustery day the entire week. The rest of the time was light jacket weather."

"Newport has a large number of very fine restaurants within walking distance of the resort. This list will provide a few to get you started until you find your own favorites:

"Besides the stately homes - there is the oldest synagogue on the eastern seaboard - Touro Synagogue built by Spanish sailors - St. Mary's church where Jack and Jackie were married - the Topiary Gardens - Jai Alai - and the dinner train which is a lot of fun - the Newport Marriott also has a very good brunch - the best dinner in Newport is Le Bistro [24 years in town] on Bowen's Wharf - a little pricey but worth the money and the view of the bay - excellent service and great food."

"I like Newport anytime of year. The mansions will probably be decorated for Christmas and that would be nice to see. One of my favorite restaurants is Brick Alley Pub. It is in the heart of the shopping district. Also If you like to shop discount outlets Fall River Mass is only about a 30 to 40 minute ride."

"If you have no children you might want to go to Hi Li they have video slot machines there. There are a lot of nice shops and restaurants around. What resort are you staying at? I might be able to tell you if it is close to town or if you will have to drive to get to downtown. Also the Marriott hotel has a nice Sunday Brunch."

"You will probably want to take a ride around ten mile drive it is a nice scenic ride. We usually stop at Brenton Point If the weather is good a lot of people fly kites at Brenton Point."
