If you want to find out about stuff happening around No.Conway you should send for the area's travel guide. I just got the most recent in the mail yesterday (I must be on their mailing list!) It is published by White Mountain Attractions, PO Box 10, North Woodstock, NH 03262-0010 and phone# 603-745-8720.. It is called the White Mountains Travel 1997 Guide. It highlights the major attractions, lodging, dining, camping, sports, events, scenic tours, maps, where to go for short/long hikes, waterfalls to hike to, biking etc. It also has maps marking where the locations are and a page listing the distance from each attraction to another. If you just use the No. Conway Scenic Railroad as the base attraction, it is easy to figure the distance to the major attractions. It is also a handy size to keep in the glove compartment. 5 x 8 and 132 pages.
They also offer a White Mountain Pass Book, where you receive 2 transferrable tickets to each of the 16 major attractions highlighted in the book. Regular 2-adult tickets would be $420 to all 16 attractions and you can purchase the book for $175. Same address and phone #. The adult round trip tickets on the Cog Railroad (1997 price) are $35 each but are also part of the pass book.
Anyone with children who plan on visiting the New England Region area might be interested in the Children's Fun Pass Booklet that is offered yearly by the American Lung Association of Maine. This passbook offers coupons for free admission for children 12 and under when accompanied by a full paying adult (though there are a number of attractions where the coupon is good for 16-18 and under). You do need one booklet per child, but the cost is ONLY $15. Some of the coupons are ski related and some are summer activities. A number of the admission prices for kids can reach $20$-35 ticket, so it is a great bargain. The # of attractions in this years booklet for each state are Maine-51, New Hampshire-19, Massachusetts-20 and Vermont-7. If you have any questions about how the Children's Fun Pass works, or about any of the attracton, call call 1-800-458-6472 or write to The American Lung Asssociation of Maine, 122 State Street, Augusta, Maine 04330.
To give you a sample of the booklet coupons, The New Hampshire attractions for 1997 are:(I have listed age limit for the free child's pass)
