Acadia

"I won us a $25.00 dinner certificate for a wonderful meal at a local restaurant, SPINNAKERS, by doing a scavenger hunt almost all week. The indoor pool and outdoor Jacuzzi are pleasant, but the walk back to the condo in a wet bathing suit even with big towels is cold! The big reason for coming here though, is Acadia National Park. I could rave about Acadia for weeks, but you should take the time and discover it for yourself. Do not miss having popovers on a picnic table at Jordon Pond, sunset or sunrise from atop Cadillac Mountain, a whale watching cruise from Bar Harbor( go on an empty stomach if prone to seasickness, and dress warm), and Schoodic Peninsula (its worth the drive). Kebo Golf Course is gorgeous, and the Jumpin Java Bakery in Southwest Harbor has great breakfast treats. We would do this same trip every year if it were not a two day drive! We had stayed at Acadia Village Resort in 1990 and it was nice, but we put a lot of miles on driving the half hour to Acadia each way every day.

Carrabassett Valley

"There is a restaurant/bar in the main building which offers casual dining (burgers, pizza, sandwiches, dinner entrees etc)---however, there are several places to eat within walking distance. My favorite is "THE BAG" for lunch and "GEPETTOS" for dinner. There are several micro brewery's on the mountain also. There are kids activities, teen dances, games, video arcades, tubing parties, babysitting services etc. The mountain also has plenty of adult entertainment with bands, dancing, comedy shows, bars etc. Of course, there is also plenty of shopping on site as well, ski shops, clothing, jewelry, real estate, small grocery store, hair salon, Laundromat, art gallery etc. Sugarloaf is Maine's second highest peak (4,237) with 126 trails and 14 ski lifts (2 super quads). The winter season usually runs between October and May. The closest airports are in Portland which is 2 ½ hour drive and Bangor is about 2 hour drive. Don't overlook Sugarloaf for its summer activities either, they have a beautiful 18 hole golf course (rated #1 in Maine), and great mountain bike and hiking trails, white water rafting nearby."
