3/1/98- Date of visit-October, 1997 - We visited Lakewood Resort
just to tour it as we were thinking of buying a cheap resale there. There
was no resort office on site. We encountered two very friendly ladies who
were in the process of changing units because their unit was infested with
fleas from a previous inconsiderate occupant violating the rules and bringing
the family pet. They kindly allowed us to tour their corner unit. It was
a three story condo with two bedrooms. The guest bedroom was on the third
floor in a loft and it had no windows or bathroom. It would be fine for
kids. The main floor had a full bath as you walk in the front door, a nice
kitchen , dining area, and living room. The living room had a fireplace
in the corner on the outside back wall. There is a nice deck off the living
room. The unit overlooks Deep Creek Lake, and it is a pretty view. The
downstairs bedroom faces the back outside view with another smaller deck
or patio. There is a full bathroom downstairs with a big tub jacuzzi, but
no windows and the lighting in there was depressing (so bring candles if
you plan to soak). I can't remember what else was on the bottom floor if
anything. We liked the unit enough that we were strongly tempted to buy
an October week there, but we found another deal at Massanutten which was
better for trade value.
This is a very small resort with no more than a dozen or so condos.
The developer had bigger plans and got into troubles and the owners bought
him out eventually. They are in the process of refurbishing the units as
they can afford. Deep Creek Lake is huge with lots of opportunities for
boating, windsurfing, swimming, and hiking at various state parks within
an hour's drive. There is a very nice ski resort and golf course across
the lake from the condos. The golf course is very expensive, and there
are not a lot of other golf courses in the area. There are a lot of restaurants
in the area, and they just built a big multi screen movie theater in the
area. This would be a nice trade if you like a lakeside type vacation.
