| I may as well join this debate too, since I have been looking at buying here. I concur with Pam's comments, and I know that she has studied South Africa in many aspects for some time, not just since this thread started. I work with a person who is from South Africa. His dad (who still lives in South Africa) owns a few timeshares over there and they have always traded extremely well. He gets a bonus week with a couple of his resorts when he trades into the States. Besides being close to Sun City, this resort sits next to a large conference center and it is adjacent to a game reserve, which he indicates is a large attraction(observing, not hunting). He also indicated that S.A. attracts people from Europe who often have 8 weeks vacation. As far as the issue of buying someplace that you would have no desire to go to... many people (including myself), buy resorts to trade, not to go there. With a $100+ exchange fee and $108 maintenance fee, you are still looking at less than a U.S. maintenance fee alone. Will the maintenance fees go up.. of course. So will ours in the U.S. Is it a gamble, yes .... but there are no "for sure" things in life...
