> I have contacted International Condominium Wholesalers in Montgomery, Texas. A very nice salesman named Scott called me back with all the info. It sounds too good to be true, which is something my father always told me to be skeptical of, and believe me I am. Someone needs to talk me out of this, or shed some light on this subject, because I am very close to sealing the deal. Anyone else out there have an opinion? What are the pitfalls here? I've read this whole thread, and have seen only one or two negative comments.

Before I mention a couple of negatives, I have to add that I, too, am seriously considering buying, in spite of what I am about to say.

The government and economy is still very unstable in SA (even according to a S. African firm I have been in touch with). A communist takeover is always a possibility, which would mean the investment could go up in smoke (maybe literally). Not to mention the violence that continues to plague Johannesburg.

Since the end of apartheid, affirmative action is being carried to extremes, which is not helping the economy. This form of discrimination has recently been upheld in the courts, so is likely to worsen. Before the end of apartheid, the whites, which comprised 10%? of the population, paid over 80% of the taxes. So, if you suddenly deprive the tax paying portion of the population of jobs and advancement, you can imagine what that would do to the economy of a country.

So, is that enough negatives for you? I should add that I do expect them to pull out of the economic problems eventually, barring the communist threat. Pam
